Congratulations on being part of a very select community--the ones who have embraced the next generation of application performance management. We hope you're enjoying your use of AppDynamics Lite (beta), the very first free product designed for troubleshooting java performance in production environments.
This forum is a place for users of the Lite product to ask questions, report problems, and make product suggestions. The AppDynamics staff monitors the forum and will provide comments as needed--so don't be shy.
Thanks for joining our community. As you poke around and get started, we thought we'd answer one question up front--which is, why we're comfortable giving away 80% of the value of old-school application management solutions.
Simply put, there's a need for it.
Many of the folks at here at AppDynamics have spent years supporting mission-critical production environments as developers and performance engineers, and we know how frustrating it is to get any visibility into performance dynamics when all one has is some logs. In those situations, we always wished we had a simple way to inject instrumentation in the production server and get more visibility.
By introducing a free, beta tool called AppDynamics Lite, we've delivered that capability to Java Performance Engineers and Production Support pros.
The job of ensuring performance in production environments has always been difficult. And with the complexity of open-source, SOA, and cloud architectures, it's not getting any easier. Production support teams NEED a free tool that lets them win Fire Fights in production--and do it fast.
Now, of course, this boundless generosity on our part does have a healthy strain of self-interest. In offering AppDynamics Lite, we will create a vibrant user base that will ultimately be receptive to our Standard and Cloud Editions.
But in the meantime, we think AppDynamics Lite delivers what our communities need--and we believe it will put out a lot of fires. Please, let us know what you think--and ask questions--and make suggestions. We're here to help.
